Robert E. Coles
MD, AAOS

Dr. Coles is a graduate of Harvard and of Duke University
Medical School. He received his Orthopedic Surgery Training
at Duke University Medical Center where he was chief
resident and assistant team physician for both Duke and
NCCU. Following his residency, he was a Sports Medicine
fellow at the Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Salt Lake City
where he worked with the US Ski Team. He is board certified
by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Coles is a member of the American Academy of
Orthopedic Surgeons, The Southern Orthopedic Association,
The American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and the
Piedmont Orthopedic Society.
Dr. Coles has a broad range of knowledge in all types of
orthopedic problems with a particular interest in Sports
Medicine, Complex Knee Surgery, Ligament Reconstruction,
Shoulder Surgery, Hand Surgery and Joint Replacement. His
expertise includes arthroscopic, micro and minimally invasive
surgery. Dr. Coles believes in a team approach between the
patient and doctor with physical therapists, occupational
therapists and athletic trainers, and recommends nonsurgical
treatment when possible.
Dr. Coles practices at Carolinas Center for Surgery and
operates at The Surgical Center of Morehead City and at
Carteret General Hospital. He is the team physician for several
local high schools.
